Court Tennis Contemporary

An exhibition of works inspired by the original racquet sport

17-21 May, 2016 The Newport Art Museum, Newport, RI, USA

To coincide with the 2016 men’s World Championship at the National Tennis Club a group exhibition was held of work by contemporary artists on the theme of real/court tennis. “Court Tennis”, as it is called in the USA, is the original racquet sport developed in Europe during the early Renaissance and gave birth to the modern game of Tennis.

“Real Tennis”, with its customised court, handmade dense balls and wood racquets, continues to be played today by 10,000+ people on 46 active courts worldwide.  The artists will produce new work for the exhibition inspired by the sport, its history and in particular the court: each a unique architectural space to play and experience.
